Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State endorsed Mustapha Sule Lamido as their consensus governorship candidate during a meeting in Dutse on Wednesday. Party elders from all 27 local government areas attended the meeting. They agreed on Lamido’s candidacy ahead of the 2027 general election. The decision aims to strengthen the party’s chances and present a united front. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, the state PDP chairman, presented the nomination forms to Lamido.
Party Adopts Consensus Strategy for 2027
Babandi explained that the party followed the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). These rules allow parties to choose candidates through consensus or primaries. He added that the PDP plans to adopt consensus for other elective positions. This strategy, he said, will reduce internal conflicts and boost unity.
Lamido Promises Vision for Jigawa
Mustapha Lamido expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their support. He promised to protect the interests of the PDP and the people of Jigawa State. Moreover, he said he has a clear vision to move the state to a “safe promised land.” He urged supporters to intensify efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.
PDP Remains Strong Opposition – Lamido
Lamido also addressed the national crisis within the PDP. However, he insisted the party remains the strongest opposition platform in Nigeria. He said the PDP is committed to rescuing Nigerians from current challenges. According to him, the party still offers hope and direction.
Stakeholders Call Move Political Milestone
Several stakeholders described the endorsement as a major political milestone. They believe the decision will help rebuild Jigawa State under a PDP-led administration. Furthermore, they expressed confidence in Lamido’s leadership and capacity.
Preparations Intensify for 2027 Elections
The PDP has begun early preparations for the 2027 general election. The party aims to consolidate support across the state. With a consensus candidate in place, leaders expect a more coordinated campaign.
