PSG Edge Bayern to Reach Champions League Final Against Arsenal

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena in Munich to secure a 6-5 aggregate victory and book a UEFA Champions League final clash with Arsenal. Ousmane Dembele scored early for PSG, while Harry Kane netted late for Bayern in a thrilling semi-final second leg.

Dembele Gives PSG Dream Start

PSG started aggressively and struck within three minutes. Fabian Ruiz threaded a precise pass down the left flank for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Georgian winger burst past his marker before cutting the ball back for Ousmane Dembele, who smashed home from close range.

The goal stunned Bayern and immediately handed PSG control of the tie. Bayern had also conceded early against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. However, this time they failed to recover.

Bayern Struggle to Respond

Despite playing at home, Bayern looked sluggish in attack. Michael Olise struggled to influence the game, while PSG’s defence remained organised throughout the contest.

PSG successfully limited Bayern’s attacking opportunities for most of the match. Although Harry Kane scored in stoppage time, the German champions could not force extra time.

Bayern also expressed frustration with several first-half refereeing decisions. Nevertheless, the six-time European champions lacked sharpness in key moments.

Fabian Ruiz Impresses on Return

Fabian Ruiz delivered a strong performance after returning to PSG’s starting lineup. The midfielder replaced the injured Achraf Hakimi, who missed the match through injury.

Ruiz dictated play in midfield and created the opening goal with a brilliant through ball. His display helped PSG maintain composure under pressure.

PSG Chase Back-to-Back Champions League Titles

PSG have now reached another Champions League final and remain favourites to retain the trophy. Luis Enrique’s side will face Arsenal on May 30 in Budapest.

The French champions aim to become the first club since Real Madrid to win consecutive Champions League titles.

PSG also continued their excellent form despite a demanding schedule. Both teams entered the match after playing 52 games this season, excluding the Club World Cup.

While PSG looked energetic, Bayern appeared fatigued during crucial stages of the game.

Bayern Left Wondering What Could Have Been

Bayern entered the match as Bundesliga champions but suffered their fourth defeat across all competitions this season.

The German giants have not reached the Champions League final since beating PSG in the 2020 final in Lisbon.

Meanwhile, PSG once again demonstrated why they are now among Europe’s dominant forces.
