Young Golfer Triumphs at Elephant Cement Golf Club

A 14-year-old student, Malik Adams, won the maiden Golf Shop NG Tournament held at the Elephant Cement Golf Club in Sagamu, Ogun State. The event attracted over 180 golfers from across the region. Adams defeated experienced amateur players after delivering an outstanding performance during the competition organised by Golf Shop NG Ltd.

The junior golfer, who studies at Technical College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, played off a 25 handicap. He returned a remarkable Net 61 score, finishing 10-under-par with a Gross 86. Consequently, he secured victory by six strokes ahead of his closest challenger.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Middle Bridge Services, the consulting firm for Golf Shop NG Ltd, Adams displayed composure and consistency throughout the tournament. He recorded 16 pars and birdies on holes 4 and 8.

Tournament Attracts Regional Golf Community

The inaugural competition drew widespread attention within the regional golfing community. More than 170 registered golfers competed for honours during the well-attended tournament in Ogun State.

Several dignitaries participated in the ceremonial tee-off. They included the Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, the Ẹbi of Ìdènà, Oba Lukman Adebambo Salami, and the Asiwaju Adeen of Ogun State, Adebayo Samsudeen Apelogun.

Others present included retired Chief Justice of Kwara State, Lambo Akanbi, Captain of Abeokuta Golf Club, Umar Bakare, and Captain of Elephant Cement Golf Club, Adedeji Esan.

Organisers Push Grassroots Golf Development

Speaking during the prize presentation, Esan praised the organisers for boosting the club’s profile through the successful tournament.

“We are delighted to witness this Golf Shop NG inaugural event. Mr. Kuti has brought needed spotlight to our club,” he said.

Esan also expressed readiness to host future editions of the competition at the club.

Meanwhile, tournament organiser Mr. Kuti described the event as part of efforts to expand grassroots golf development in Nigeria. He explained that the competition aims to provide young golfers with opportunities to compete alongside experienced players.

“We are eager to further contribute to the growth and development of golf at the grassroots,” Kuti stated.

He added that the tournament already supports young talents seeking to improve their skills in the sport.

Multinational Firms Support Tournament Success

Kuti also appreciated the Local Organising Committee for coordinating what he described as a successful golf tournament. In addition, he commended multinational companies that supported Golf Shop NG and contributed to the event’s success.

Golf Shop NG Ltd, a golf accessories and equipment company based at Elephant Cement Golf Club, stated that the competition marks its official entry into golf event promotion. The company also revealed plans to sustain the initiative to grow the sport across Ogun State and beyond.
