Thousands of members of the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday endorsed Mustapha Sule Lamido as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election during a primary held in Dutse, Jigawa State. The exercise drew delegates and supporters from all 287 wards, while party officials, Independent National Electoral Commission representatives, security agencies, and stakeholders monitored the process. Lamido accepted the mandate and promised to rebuild the state through accountable leadership and inclusive development.
Massive Turnout Marks PDP Governorship Primary
The governorship primary took place at the M-Town Centre in Dutse and attracted a large turnout of party members and supporters from across the state.
Delegates gathered to affirm Lamido, who emerged as the sole aspirant ahead of the 2027 governorship contest. The event reflected strong participation and heightened political interest within the party.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee sent by the PDP national headquarters, Isah Ahmed, announced Lamido’s emergence after conducting a voice affirmation.
According to Ahmed:
“Following the affirmation by PDP members through a voice vote, I hereby declare Mustapha Sule Lamido the duly affirmed governorship candidate of our great party for Jigawa State.”
Lamido Accepts Mandate, Promises to Rebuild Jigawa
Shortly after the affirmation, Lamido expressed gratitude to party members and described the endorsement as both humbling and a serious responsibility.
“I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility,” he stated while formally accepting the party’s ticket.
Lamido said his decision to contest again followed unresolved challenges facing the state, including hardship, governance concerns, and declining public confidence.
He stressed that his ambition goes beyond personal goals and represents a collective effort to rescue and reposition the state.
Candidate Reaffirms 2023 Development Agenda
Lamido referenced his 2023 campaign blueprint and said the vision remains relevant.
According to him, the agenda focuses on:
- Unity and social cohesion
- Economic growth
- Youth empowerment
- Education reform
- Healthcare improvement
- Social renewal
- Institutional transformation
“These are not mere promises; they are a contract with the people, and I intend to see them through,” he said.
He also raised concerns about education standards, healthcare delivery, and growing economic hardship across the state.
However, he maintained an optimistic tone.
“But let me be clear: we are not here to lament; we are here to fix it,” Lamido declared.
Call for Party Unity Ahead of 2027
Lamido urged party members to remain united and disciplined as preparations begin for the 2027 election.
He said victory would depend on cohesion, commitment, and confidence in a shared future.
Addressing residents directly, he added:
“To the people of Jigawa: I hear you, I see you, and I feel your pains. Give me the opportunity to serve you.”
He also commended PDP leaders at both state and national levels for conducting a peaceful and orderly process and congratulated other aspirants for their participation.
Concluding his remarks, Lamido expressed confidence in the party’s future, saying:
“Together, we will rise and rebuild our dear state.”
