The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, on June 7, 2026, inspected major Federal Government road projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State. The inspection focused on the ongoing reconstruction of the 43.65-kilometre Mararaba–Keffi Road and other strategic highways. During the tour, Umahi assessed project quality, reviewed construction progress, engaged contractors, and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering durable road infrastructure under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Umahi Praises Quality of Work on Mararaba–Keffi Road
During the inspection, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the Mararaba–Keffi Road project. China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Ltd is handling the reconstruction and expansion of the Keffi-bound carriageway.
Umahi noted that the project meets approved standards and reflects the government’s determination to improve road infrastructure across the country.
JRB Construction Earns Commendation
The Minister also inspected the Abuja-bound section of the Mararaba–Keffi Road. Messrs JRB Construction Company is executing the full emergency rehabilitation project.
He praised the contractor for maintaining high construction standards. He also expressed confidence that the project would be completed before the March 1, 2028 deadline.
In addition, the project includes solar-powered streetlights and other supporting infrastructure designed to improve safety and road usability.
“This is highly commendable. The quality of work is evident, and I encourage you to sustain this standard through to completion,” Umahi said.
Federal Government Warns Against Substandard Projects
Furthermore, the Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to end the era of abandoned and poorly executed projects.
He directed contractors to comply with approved specifications and contractual obligations. He also urged them to maintain regular communication with the Ministry whenever challenges arise.
According to him, the government remains committed to honouring its payment obligations. However, contractors must never compromise quality.
Umahi further instructed contractors to complete all unfinished sections before starting new asphalt works. He explained that incomplete stretches often delay project delivery and reduce road efficiency.
Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road Progress Reviewed
The inspection team also visited Section II of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road project. Messrs Infiouest International Ltd is executing the project.
Umahi disclosed that the contractor is expected to complete the remaining works by November 12, 2026.
National Assembly Lawmakers Back Infrastructure Drive
Speaking during the inspection, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Sen. Allwell Onyesoh, and Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, praised President Bola Tinubu for accelerating infrastructure development nationwide.
Also present was Hon. Jeremiah Sa’idu, who represents Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency.
The lawmakers described the road projects as strategic investments that will boost economic growth, improve connectivity, support commerce, and strengthen national integration.
They also pledged continued legislative support and oversight.
Officials Highlight Strong Supervision and Project Delivery
The Federal Controller of Works in the FCT, Engr. Mohammed Usman, commended the level of commitment shown by all stakeholders.
He praised Umahi’s hands-on leadership and regular project monitoring. He also acknowledged contractors for maintaining quality standards and ensuring steady progress.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North Central Zone, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, applauded President Tinubu’s investment in infrastructure and economic empowerment programmes.
She noted that improved road networks will enhance mobility, stimulate economic activities, and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Indigenous Firms Demonstrate Growing Capacity
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of JRB Construction Company, Mr. Jamilu Ogunbola, said the company’s involvement in the Abuja–Keffi Road project reflects the growing capacity of indigenous construction firms.
He stated that local companies can successfully deliver complex infrastructure projects while meeting international standards and best practices.
FG Reaffirms Commitment to Timely Project Completion
The inspection tour underscores the Federal Government’s determination to complete critical road projects on schedule.
The Ministry of Works remains focused on sustaining infrastructure development as a tool for economic transformation, national cohesion, and improved living standards across Nigeria.
