Operatives of the Delta State Police Command impounded 21 vehicles during an intelligence-led enforcement operation conducted in Abraka and Ozoro on July 21, 2026, to enforce traffic laws, improve public safety and prevent criminals from using improperly documented vehicles. The operation, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, targeted motorists who violated traffic regulations, according to the command.
Intelligence-Led Operation Targets Traffic Offenders
The Delta State Police Command said the enforcement exercise formed part of its strategy to strengthen security through strict compliance with traffic regulations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Warri on Wednesday.
Edafe explained that the patrol team, under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, carried out the operation at about 3:00 p.m.
21 Vehicles Seized for Multiple Offences
According to Edafe, officers impounded 21 vehicles for several traffic-related violations.
The offences included:
- Failure to display registration number plates.
- Use of covered number plates.
- Expired vehicle registration documents.
He added that the police would subject all affected vehicles to the required legal and administrative procedures.
Commissioner Warns Against Improper Vehicle Documentation
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned motorists against operating vehicles without proper identification or valid documentation.
He said such vehicles pose serious security risks because criminals can exploit them to commit offences without easy identification.
The commissioner urged all vehicle owners to comply with traffic regulations and maintain valid registration documents at all times.
Police Pledge Sustained Enforcement
Oyeniyi assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-led enforcement operations across the state.
He said the initiative aims to improve public safety, strengthen security and ensure full compliance with traffic laws.
