Nasarawa Police Begin Continuous Show-of-Force Operations Ahead of Political Campaigns

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The Nasarawa State Police Command will begin continuous show-of-force operations across the state on Monday, August 17, ahead of political campaigns starting Wednesday, August 19. Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed announced the exercise in Lafia on Sunday to strengthen security, protect residents and visitors, prevent criminal activities, and maintain public order. The operation will involve the police and other security agencies across strategic locations and major routes.

Police Deploy Security Personnel Across Nasarawa

The command will conduct the operation in collaboration with sister security agencies across Nasarawa State.

Police Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said the operation would begin in the Southern Senatorial District.

The exercise will later move to the Northern and Western Senatorial Districts.

Mohammed said security personnel would take positions at entry and exit routes.

They will also cover strategic locations and other critical areas across the state.

Intensive Stop-and-Search Operations

The commissioner said officers would conduct intensive stop-and-search operations during the exercise.

The operations will help detect criminal elements and prevent their movement.

Security personnel will also search for weapons and other prohibited items.

However, Mohammed stressed that the exercise does not target any individual or organisation.

He said it does not target political parties or groups either.

Instead, the police designed the operation as a proactive security measure.

According to him, the move will protect lives and property across the state.

It will also help maintain public order and create a peaceful environment.

Police Urge Residents to Remain Calm

Mohammed urged residents to remain calm throughout the operation.

He also asked residents to continue their lawful activities without fear.

Furthermore, he urged the public to cooperate with security personnel during stop-and-search operations.

Residents should also report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies promptly.

The commissioner said the heavy security presence should not cause alarm.

Instead, it should reassure residents and visitors about the state’s security preparedness.

Show of Force Ahead of Political Campaigns

The police said the operation will take place ahead of political campaigns scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 19.

Mohammed said the timing would help security agencies prepare for increased political activities.

He assured residents that police personnel would remain professional throughout the exercise.

The command also wants to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the campaign period.

Therefore, security agencies will maintain a strong presence across strategic areas.

Police Reassure Nasarawa Residents

Mohammed said the operation aims to reassure residents about the readiness of security agencies.

He added that personnel would work to protect lives and property across the state.

The commissioner therefore urged residents to support security agencies during the exercise.

He said cooperation would help the command maintain peace and protect communities.
