President Bola Tinubu has mourned veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, following his death, and described his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s creative industry. The President extended condolences to Hassan’s family, friends, colleagues and admirers while praising his decades-long contribution to Yoruba theatre, Nigerian cinema and cultural preservation.
Tinubu Pays Tribute to Taiwo Hassan
President Tinubu described Taiwo Hassan as a distinguished artiste who shaped Yoruba-language theatre and Nigerian cinema.
According to the President, Ogogo entertained generations through his distinctive acting style and powerful screen presence.
He also praised the late actor’s dedication to his craft and Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
Furthermore, Tinubu highlighted Hassan’s influence on younger artistes across the creative industry.
Ogogo’s Legacy in Nollywood
The President said Ogogo’s extensive body of work remains important to Nigeria’s cultural history.
He noted that the actor used his talent to tell Nigerian stories and preserve cultural values.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was a gifted artiste who used his talent to tell Nigerian stories.
“He preserved our cultural heritage and entertained audiences at home and abroad.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood and the entire Nigerian creative community,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu Sends Condolences
Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to Hassan’s family, colleagues and friends.
He also sympathised with the millions of admirers who mourn the veteran actor.
The President prayed for strength and comfort for the late actor’s loved ones.
He further prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Ogogo eternal rest.
Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Preserve Ogogo’s Legacy
The President urged Nigerians to honour Ogogo by preserving his cultural and artistic legacy.
He also called on members of the creative industry to build on the traditions Hassan promoted.
According to Tinubu, such efforts would keep the actor’s contributions alive for future generations.
Taiwo Hassan’s Journey Into Acting
Before achieving fame, Taiwo Hassan worked as a mechanic at the Ogun State Water Corporation.
He spent about 13 years working there while developing his acting career.
Hassan began acting in 1981 and combined acting with his mechanic job.
However, he left the job in 1994 to pursue acting as a full-time profession.
Over the years, he became one of the prominent faces of Yoruba-language cinema.
His career earned him widespread recognition across Nigeria and beyond.
