Bandits abducted Bitrus Jayawa and his wife, Martha Bitrus, on Monday around 9:12am at their farm in Katambi community, Kachia LGA of Kaduna State, after the couple went to clear land for cultivation.
How the Abduction Happened
According to Markus Iliya, a Katambi resident, the couple went to the farm with three of their children. However, the situation changed quickly when the children noticed the attackers approaching.
They immediately fled to safety. Meanwhile, the bandits chased and captured their parents.
“Its the three children who first saw the bandits and escaped before the attackers seized the couple,” Iliya said.
Community Reaction and Security Response
A community leader confirmed the incident but chose to remain anonymous. He explained that residents alerted security operatives immediately.
However, troops stationed at Kurutu junction arrived too late. By then, the attackers had already taken the victims into the forest.
Police Yet to Confirm Incident
As of now, Hassan Mansur, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, has not issued an official statement.
Rising Security Concerns in Kachia
This incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Kachia LGA. Farmers, in particular, face increasing threats while working on their land.
