The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed October 26, 2026, to rule on former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s no-case submission in his alleged unlawful wiretapping trial. El-Rufai faces prosecution over alleged interception of telephone conversations involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. Justice Abdulmalik fixed the date after lawyers adopted their written addresses during the resumed hearing.
Court Considers El-Rufai’s No-Case Submission
El-Rufai, who is the defendant in the case, is standing trial over the alleged wiretapping offence.
The prosecution alleges that he unlawfully intercepted telephone conversations involving Ribadu.
However, El-Rufai filed a no-case submission through his legal team.
The submission asks the court to determine whether the prosecution has presented enough evidence.
Prosecution Urges Court to Reject Submission
During the resumed proceedings, both parties adopted their written addresses.
The prosecution counsel urged the court to reject El-Rufai’s no-case submission.
The prosecution also asked the court to order the former governor to enter his defence.
Meanwhile, the defence maintained its position in support of the no-case submission.
Court Adjourns Case to October 26
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Abdulmalik reserved ruling on the submission.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until October 26, 2026.
The court will determine whether El-Rufai should proceed with his defence or secure further consideration of the prosecution’s case.
The ruling will therefore mark another stage in the ongoing legal proceedings against the former Kaduna governor.
