The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N4.30 trillion between January and June 2026, achieving 36.4 per cent of its N11.074 trillion annual target through improved revenue collection and digital reforms.
Customs Board Reviews Revenue Performance
The disclosure came during the 65th Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
Minister of Finance, Professor Taiwo Oyedele, chaired the meeting.
The Board reviewed the Service’s revenue performance during the first half of 2026.
It also assessed measures to improve efficiency, accountability and revenue mobilisation.
Digital System Boosts Customs Revenue
The Customs Service credited part of the revenue growth to the B’Odogwu digital system.
The system supports more efficient customs processes and revenue collection.
Additionally, the Service has expanded its audit operations.
It has also adopted geospatial technology to strengthen monitoring and compliance.
Meanwhile, joint border patrols have helped improve enforcement activities.
The Service also continues to engage with members of the trading community.
Board Approves Customs Medical Corps Upgrade
During the meeting, the Board approved the upgrade of the Customs Medical Corps.
The corps will now operate as a sub-department within the Service.
The Board also approved the De-Minimis Regulation 2025.
Furthermore, it reviewed the ongoing Customs recruitment exercise.
Customs Targets Stronger Revenue Mobilisation
The Nigeria Customs Service says the measures will strengthen its operations.
They will also improve accountability across the Service.
In addition, the reforms aim to increase revenue mobilisation.
The NCS will continue using technology and stronger enforcement to improve collections.
With N4.30 trillion already generated, the Service still has a significant balance to reach its annual target.
