Dangote Cement has urged its drivers to priorities road safety, manage fatigue and avoid reckless driving during its 2026 Drivers’ Safety Retreat at the Ibese plant in Ogun State. The retreat brought together drivers and fleet officers to discuss workplace welfare, operational challenges and measures to improve safer transport operations.

Dangote Cement Reaffirms Commitment to Drivers’ Welfare

The Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, Arvind Pathak, said the company values its employees’ contributions and remains committed to their safety and welfare.

He explained that the company would continue investing in safety training and equipment while addressing workers’ concerns.

“We appreciate the sacrifices you make every day to keep our business moving. That is why we are committed not only to providing you with the tools and training to work safely, but also to listening to your concerns and improving your welfare,” Pathak said.

Furthermore, he encouraged drivers to prioritize their lives over delivery schedules and avoid driving under unsafe conditions.

“We can replace a truck; we cannot replace a human being,” he said.

Drivers Warned Against Fatigue and Reckless Driving

The retreat, themed Think Safety, Act Safely, highlighted major road risks, including speeding, fatigue and reckless driving.

Pathak advised drivers to stop and rest whenever they felt tired. He also urged them to avoid taking unnecessary risks on the road.

“If you are tired, stop and rest. If a situation looks unsafe, do not take chances. The goal is not just to reach your destination; the goal is to return home safely to your family,” he said.

Similarly, the Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero, encouraged drivers to rest whenever fatigue threatened their ability to drive safely.

He emphasized the importance of protecting their lives and returning home safely to their families.

Transport Head Cautions Against Unsafe Practices

Dangote Cement’s Head of Transport, Murilo Silva, warned drivers against reckless driving, proxy driving and other unsafe transport practices.

He stressed the need for discipline and responsible conduct during transport operations.

Meanwhile, participants discussed workplace welfare concerns, rising living costs, work-related expenses and delays in receiving drug-test results.

The discussions provided an opportunity for the company to understand drivers’ challenges and explore practical solutions.

Outstanding Drivers Receive Awards

As part of the retreat, Dangote Cement recognized employees for their performance and commitment to safety.

Eight drivers, four fleet officers and one recipient of the STM award received honors during the event.

The awards highlighted the importance of responsible driving, professionalism and dedication to safer transport operations.

Company Reinforces Road Safety Priorities

The 2026 Drivers’ Safety Retreat provided a platform for Dangote Cement and its drivers to review safety priorities and operational challenges.

In addition, the discussions focused on improving employee welfare and strengthening safe driving practices.

The company’s emphasis on training, responsible driving and staff welfare reflects its efforts to promote safer transport operations at the Ibese plant and beyond.
