A coalition of real estate developers in Abuja has petitioned President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly over alleged misconduct by FHA boss Oyetunde Ojo. The developers claim land grabbing, extortion, and stalled approvals have disrupted projects in the Federal Capital Territory. They submitted the petition to seek urgent intervention and restore order in the housing sector.
Developers Accuse FHA Leadership of Misconduct
The developers accused Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), of actions that undermine the agency’s mandate. They said his leadership contradicts the government’s housing goals.
According to them, his actions could derail the Renewed Hope Agenda on affordable housing. They warned that continued interference threatens national housing delivery.
Alleged Land Encroachment and Project Delays
The coalition said many approved applications have reached final stages. However, they alleged that the FHA leadership has deliberately stalled approvals.
They also claimed that land grabbers, backed by officials, have encroached on legally acquired lands. As a result, developers now face serious setbacks.
Furthermore, they said the situation has triggered multiple court cases across High Courts in Abuja. These disputes continue to delay multi-billion-naira housing projects.
Financial Pressure and Rising Debt Burden
The developers stressed that delays have increased their financial strain. Many secured bank loans for their projects. However, stalled approvals have made repayment difficult.
They added that prolonged litigation and harassment by security agents have worsened the situation. Consequently, some developers now face pressure from lenders due to rising debts.
Call for National Assembly Probe
The coalition urged the Senate and House of Representatives to investigate the FHA leadership. They believe a probe will sanitize the agency and restore transparency.
They also called on President Tinubu to act swiftly. According to them, urgent action will prevent further damage to the housing sector.
Developers Reaffirm Support for Tinubu’s Agenda
Despite their concerns, the developers reaffirmed support for the president’s development agenda. They expressed commitment to national housing objectives.
They, however, insisted that accountability at the FHA remains critical. They urged the government to address the alleged misconduct without delay.
Conclusion
The petition highlights growing tensions within Nigeria’s housing sector. If unresolved, the dispute could hinder affordable housing delivery. Therefore, stakeholders now await the federal government’s response.
