Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 140,000 copies of seven educational books to public school libraries across the country. She presented the books through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in partnership with the Merck Foundation. The donation, received by the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to improve literacy, promote positive values, and support children’s holistic development nationwide.
Education Minister Applauds the Literacy Initiative
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the donation as a significant investment in Nigeria’s education sector.
He said the initiative supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aligns with the ministry’s commitment to delivering quality, inclusive and learner-centred education.
According to the minister, the books will enrich public school libraries and provide pupils with valuable learning resources that extend beyond the classroom.
Books Promote Values, Health and Child Protection
The donated collection covers several important subjects that shape children’s personal and academic growth.
These include:
- Girl-child education
- Child protection
- Healthy living
- Gender-based violence awareness
- Reproductive health
- Social responsibility
- Character development
Dr. Alausa noted that the books will strengthen reading skills while encouraging critical thinking, empathy and responsible citizenship among young learners.
Ministry Assures Nationwide Distribution
The Education Minister also acknowledged Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s consistent support for education and youth development.
Furthermore, he assured Nigerians that the ministry would distribute the books effectively to public school libraries across the country. This approach will ensure that pupils in different states benefit from the initiative.
