Good Good Fires CEO and President After Backlash Over Controversial Advert

By Elizabeth Ugbo

American golf brand Good Good has fired its CEO Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery after backlash over a controversial Callaway advert. The company took the action this week in the United States following criticism of an advert showing a woman pushed to the ground. Good Good said the leadership changes would help the company move forward after the controversy. The advert sparked widespread criticism over its portrayal of violence against women.

Good Good Executives Depart After Advert Backlash

Good Good confirmed that it had parted ways with Kendrick and Flannery.

The company also dismissed Jeffrey Lefkovits, its vice-president of brand and marketing, earlier this week.

The leadership changes followed the release of an advert created for golf club manufacturer Callaway.

The advert featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark and professional golfer Alexis Miestowski.

In the video, Clark rushed towards Miestowski and pushed her to the ground.

He then shouted, “Do not touch my new driver.”

The scene triggered strong reactions from viewers across social media and YouTube.

Many viewers accused Good Good of making light of violence against women.

Good Good and Callaway Apologise

Following the backlash, Good Good and Callaway removed the advert from their platforms.

Both companies also issued apologies over the controversial video.

Callaway later ended its partnership with Good Good.

The golf equipment company also pledged $1 million to organisations supporting victims of violence against women.

Good Good Loses Sponsorship and Retail Support

The controversy has also affected Good Good’s wider business operations.

The company has stepped away from sponsoring a PGA Tour event in Austin, Texas.

The event was scheduled to take place in November.

Furthermore, several retailers have removed Good Good products from their shelves.

The decisions add further pressure on the golf content company as it manages the fallout.

Nahid Giga Named Interim CEO

Good Good board member and investor Nahid Giga has now taken charge as interim chief executive.

Meanwhile, head of finance and operations Alex Puchala addressed the leadership shake-up.

Puchala described the executive departures as a “difficult day for the entire Good Good family”.

However, he said the company remained encouraged by continued support from its fans.

He also said Good Good would focus on “moving forward and building the next chapter of the company”.

Good Good’s Rise in Golf Content

Good Good launched its YouTube channel in 2020.

Since then, the company has grown into one of the biggest golf content creators.

The brand now has about 2.1 million YouTube subscribers.

Its content features men and women competing in different golf challenges.

The company has also produced television shows and advertisements.

In addition, Good Good sells golf-related merchandise to its growing audience.

The controversy now represents one of the biggest challenges in the company’s short history.

What Happens Next for Good Good?

Good Good faces the task of rebuilding trust with fans and business partners.

The company will also need to manage the impact of lost sponsorship and retail support.

For now, Nahid Giga will lead the company as interim CEO.

Meanwhile, Good Good says it remains focused on its future and continued support from its audience.
