Suspected gunmen abducted Mrs. Olaide John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The kidnappers struck around 7:30 a.m. while she was taking her children to school. Security agencies have launched rescue operations and investigations to secure the victims’ release and arrest the perpetrators.

Family Confirms Abduction

The family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued through his media aide, Femi Awogboro.

According to the statement, the kidnappers intercepted Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons while they were on their way to school in Ibadan.

The family expressed deep concern over the incident. However, it said security agencies had already commenced rescue efforts and investigations.

“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement said.

Security Agencies Intensify Rescue Efforts

The family disclosed that law enforcement agencies are actively working to rescue the victims and track down those responsible.

It also appealed to members of the public to support ongoing efforts by sharing credible information with security agencies through appropriate channels.

The family assured authorities of its full cooperation throughout the investigation and rescue operation.

Family Urges Public to Avoid Speculation

While expressing hope for the safe return of the victims, the family urged residents to remain calm.

It warned against spreading unverified information that could jeopardize rescue efforts.

“We are deeply distressed by this unfortunate incident, but remain hopeful that the victims will be rescued safely. We appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation and support ongoing efforts with prayers,” the statement added.

Victim Recently Relocated to Ibadan

Mrs. John-Paul was reportedly the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

She voluntarily retired from First Bank Pension Custodian in 2025. After retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children.

Sources said she was making arrangements to join her husband in the United States, where he had relocated earlier.
