A group known as the Concerned Enugu Leaders has endorsed Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani as the authentic governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election in Enugu State. The group made the declaration in a statement issued by its chairman, Chief Boniface Chukwuma, in Enugu. It said Nnamani emerged through a credible primary election and remains the party’s legitimate flagbearer. The leaders also urged PDP members to unite ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
Group Affirms Nnamani’s Emergence
The group said recent developments within the PDP have strengthened Nnamani’s position as the party’s authentic candidate.
According to the statement, the recognition of the Abdulrahman-led leadership of the PDP has helped resolve internal disputes within the party. As a result, the leaders believe Nnamani remains the rightful candidate for the governorship election.
They also recalled Nnamani’s position that the party is no longer factionalised. Furthermore, they noted that the panel that conducted and announced the primary election results came from Abuja.
Primary Election Results Support Nnamani’s Claim
The Concerned Enugu Leaders stated that the outcome of the PDP governorship primary clearly reflected the wishes of party delegates across the state.
They noted that Nnamani won the primary election with 7,542 votes. His closest rival, former Minister Chief Uche Nnaji, secured 121 votes.
According to the leaders, a total of 7,663 accredited delegates participated in the exercise.
They added that High Chief Wisdom Okoye, the PDP Returning Officer, announced the results. He reportedly confirmed that the election followed the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by the National Working Committee (NWC).
Elders Praise Conduct of the Primary
The group commended the conduct of the primary election and described it as peaceful, transparent and credible.
They referenced the Returning Officer’s remarks, which indicated that delegates freely exercised their democratic rights during the process.
Moreover, the elders said the overwhelming support for Nnamani demonstrated the confidence party members have in his leadership.
Nnamani Has Capacity to Lead Enugu, Group Says
The Concerned Enugu Leaders described Nnamani as a leader with integrity, courage and progressive ideas.
According to them, he possesses the political maturity, administrative experience and vision needed to move Enugu State forward.
The group also highlighted his commitment to democracy, party development and good governance.
In addition, they described him as a bridge-builder who enjoys widespread respect among stakeholders and party faithful across the state.
They expressed confidence in his ability to promote economic growth, youth empowerment and infrastructural development.
Call for Unity Ahead of 2027 Election
While acknowledging other claimants to the PDP governorship ticket, including Chief Uche Nnaji and Dona Nwogbo, the group urged party members to remain united.
They stressed the need for stakeholders to work together to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 election.
According to the leaders, Nnamani’s emergence offers an opportunity for reconciliation, rebuilding and electoral success.
“The time has come for all lovers of Enugu State to rally behind a leader with a clear vision, proven leadership qualities and a progressive mind. Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani possesses these qualities and remains well-positioned to provide purposeful leadership for the people of Enugu State,” the statement said.
