Kaduna to Sponsor Education of Slain Teacher’s Children as Uba Sani Vows Justice

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has pledged full support for the family of the late Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, an Islamic school teacher who was lynched by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area. Speaking during a condolence visit on Saturday, the governor announced that the state would sponsor the education of her four children, care for her family, and ensure everyone involved in the killing faces prosecution following the tragic attack triggered by false kidnapping allegations.

Governor Sani described the killing as barbaric and condemned mob justice in its entirety. He assured the bereaved family that the government would not spare anyone connected to the crime.

He promised that the state would provide for the deceased’s husband and four children. The government will also fund the children’s education.

Government Intensifies Investigation

The governor explained that he was outside Kaduna on official duty when the incident occurred. However, he immediately directed senior government officials to visit the grieving family.

He added that the state had launched a comprehensive investigation in partnership with security agencies.

“I’m working with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the DSS, and other relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter,” he said.

Over 70 Suspects Face Prosecution

Governor Sani disclosed that investigators had already made significant progress.

According to him, 41 suspects have been charged with culpable homicide. Another 41 people have undergone investigation.

In addition, authorities charged 30 suspects with unlawful assembly.

The governor reaffirmed that every individual involved, regardless of status, would face justice. He stressed that the prosecution would discourage mob violence and strengthen the rule of law.

Probe Ordered Into Police Conduct

Governor Sani also acknowledged the efforts of security agencies during the investigation.

However, he directed investigators to examine the actions of some officers, especially the Divisional Police Officer of Maraban Jos. The probe will determine whether any operational failure or complicity contributed to the incident.

Tragic Killing Sparked by False Allegation

The tragic incident happened two weeks ago in Maraban Jos, along the Kaduna–Zaria Expressway.

A mob attacked Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu after falsely accusing her of attempting to kidnap children. The attackers lynched her and later set her body ablaze.

The incident drew nationwide condemnation from religious leaders, civil society groups, and human rights advocates, who demanded justice and stronger measures against mob violence.
