Former Senate President Ken Nnamani on Sunday accused Enugu opposition figure Uche Nnaji of certificate forgery during an endorsement rally in Enugu East Senatorial Zone. Nnamani made the remarks while endorsing Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He cited recent denials from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) regarding Nnaji’s academic and service credentials. According to Nnamani, the controversy raises serious concerns about integrity, leadership, and public trust in Enugu State.
Nnamani Attacks Nnaji Over Alleged Certificate Forgery
Speaking at the rally, Nnamani described Nnaji as a “certificate forger” and insisted that individuals facing forgery allegations should not hold public office.
He stressed that integrity remains a key requirement for leadership. According to him, people entrusted with governance must possess verifiable credentials and strong moral character.
Nnamani argued that Enugu State deserves leaders with proven records of competence and accountability.
Former Senate President Warns Against Forgery
Nnamani urged Nigerians, especially public office seekers, to avoid forgery and other dishonest practices.
“Stay away from forgery,” he warned.
He added that wealth acquired through dishonest means does not qualify anyone for leadership positions.
Furthermore, he referenced a notorious street in Lagos allegedly known for producing fake certificates. He used the example to highlight growing concerns about credential fraud in public life.
Society Must Take Forgery More Seriously
The former Senate President lamented what he described as society’s declining response to dishonest conduct.
According to him, theft once attracted public condemnation and shame. However, he said many people now treat forgery less seriously despite its damaging effects on governance.
As a result, he called for stricter scrutiny of educational and professional records before individuals assume public office.
UNN Disowns Degree Certificate Presented by Nnaji
The controversy intensified after the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, reportedly rejected the Bachelor of Science certificate presented by Nnaji.
The institution stated that Nnaji did not complete his studies at UNN and was never issued a degree certificate.
This development has fueled public debate over the authenticity of his academic qualifications.
NYSC Reportedly Rejects Service Certificate
Similarly, the National Youth Service Corps reportedly informed investigators that the national service certificate linked to Nnaji could not be authenticated.
According to reports, the certificate does not exist in NYSC records.
The verification followed an ongoing investigation into Nnaji’s educational and service history. Authorities reportedly requested authentication of documents submitted during the inquiry.
Nnamani Calls for Higher Standards in Leadership
Nnamani maintained that leadership positions should be reserved for individuals with integrity and credible records.
He also argued that former public officials who have brought embarrassment to the state should not return to government positions.
According to him, Enugu’s future depends on leaders who demonstrate honesty, accountability, and a clear vision for development.
The remarks come amid growing scrutiny of Uche Nnaji’s academic and service credentials following multiple institutional denials of qualifications attributed to him.
