The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has dismissed allegations that it excluded prospective candidates from admission into its 78 Regular Course due to the closure of its application portal. The Academy made the clarification on Sunday in Kaduna through its Public Relations Officer, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya. He explained that the portal remained open throughout the registration period and that eligible applicants had sufficient time to complete their applications. The statement followed complaints from some candidates who claimed they were unable to register for the admission screening process.
NDA Explains Application Timeline
Kovangiya stated that applications for the 78 Regular Course opened on November 28, 2025. The Academy initially fixed April 30, 2026, as the deadline before extending it to May 15, 2026.
According to him, the NDA maintained access to the portal throughout the registration period. Therefore, no qualified candidate was denied the opportunity to apply because of portal closure.
Eligible Candidates Received Official Notifications
The spokesman said candidates who scored 180 and above in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and selected NDA as their first-choice institution qualified for the screening process.
He added that the Academy sent emails to eligible candidates on May 19, 2026. The emails directed them to complete registration for the NDA Screening Test before May 24, 2026.
Furthermore, the Academy publicised all admission requirements, timelines and procedures through its website, admission portal, social media channels and email communications.
NDA Rejects Claims of Preferential Treatment
Kovangiya also dismissed allegations that some candidates received privileged information or special access during the admission process.
He described the claims as false and without evidence.
“The allegation that some candidates received preferential access to registration information or procedures is entirely unfounded,” he said.
He stressed that the Academy operates a transparent, merit-based and equitable admission system that gives every qualified applicant an equal opportunity.
Late Registration Could Not Be Accommodated
The NDA spokesman explained that the Academy follows a structured and time-bound admission process. According to him, the system ensures proper planning and smooth conduct of screening exercises.
He noted that candidates had enough time to generate Remita Retrieval References, pay application fees and submit their forms before the deadline.
As a result, the Academy could not accommodate candidates who failed to complete registration requirements before the closing date for the June 20 screening test.
NDA Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency
Kovangiya reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to transparency, fairness and excellence throughout its admission process.
He urged members of the public to rely only on information released through official NDA communication channels.
In addition, he advised applicants to monitor the Academy’s platforms regularly for updates and important notices regarding admissions and screening activities.
