The Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) has expressed readiness to partner with the Aromire-Eko Empowerment Foundation on youth empowerment and job creation in Lagos. The agency’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the foundation. The meeting focused on community development, skills acquisition, training, employment and livelihood improvement.
NPERA Highlights Commitment to Community Development
Dr. Akutah said NPERA values the communities where it operates and continues to support them through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
He explained that the agency uses its CSR programmes to create value for host communities.
According to him, the foundation’s people-centred approach aligns with NPERA’s community development goals.
He added that youth empowerment remains an important part of sustainable livelihood development.
Agency Considers Support for Youth Empowerment
Dr. Akutah said NPERA would explore possible areas of support for the foundation’s proposed programme.
These areas include skills training, capacity development and the provision of relevant materials.
However, he noted that any intervention would depend on available resources and approved procedures.
The NPERA boss also commended Prince Sijuade Ojora for mobilising support for community members.
He described the initiative as commendable and worthy of encouragement.
Furthermore, Dr. Akutah directed the foundation to engage the Director of Special Duties.
He said further discussions would help the agency assess the foundation’s proposals.
Foundation Seeks Support for Youth Skills Training
Earlier, Prince Sijuade Ojora presented the foundation’s community empowerment initiative.
The programme seeks to create opportunities for youths and other community members.
It focuses on skills training, employment opportunities and other forms of support.
The initiative will also target opportunities within the port and shipping-related sectors.
Prince Sijuade said the foundation seeks NPERA’s support for training and relevant materials.
He added that the partnership could equip community members with practical skills.
According to him, the initiative could also help reduce youth unemployment.
NPERA, Foundation Eye Long-Term Partnership
Both parties expressed optimism about the proposed collaboration.
They said the engagement could establish a foundation for long-term partnership.
The proposed partnership will focus on youth empowerment, improved livelihoods and sustainable community development.
It will also explore opportunities linked to skills development and employment within the maritime sector.
