The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has announced Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The announcement came on Tuesday at Wadata Plaza in Abuja after consultations and voice votes across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. The party’s Presidential Primaries Collation Committee, chaired by Samuel Ortom, supervised the process and formally presented Onor as the party’s flag bearer.
PDP Confirms Consensus Decision
During the collation and presentation of results, Ortom said the committee consulted party members nationwide before reaching a consensus.
According to him, the engagement process reflected the position of stakeholders and members across all states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The committee subsequently declared Senator Onor the sole presidential aspirant for the exercise.
Onor Emerged Unopposed
Senator Onor became the party’s sole aspirant after formally declaring interest in the presidential race and obtaining his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month.
Party officials stated that the consensus arrangement followed internal consultations aimed at strengthening unity ahead of the election cycle.
INEC Officials Observed the Exercise
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process at the party’s national secretariat.
Those present included National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Rhoda Habor Gumus.
Their presence underscored the commission’s oversight role during party activities.
Certificate of Return Presented
Following the declaration, PDP leaders presented Senator Onor with a certificate of return and officially handed over the party’s flag.
The presentation marked the conclusion of the presidential primary exercise and confirmed his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
