President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Wednesday commissioned the Phase 1 Kuje-Gwagwalada Dual Carriage Way in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and declared that his administration is laying the foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity through strategic infrastructure projects. Speaking at the inauguration, Tinubu explained that the road project aims to improve security, boost commerce, enhance transportation, and support economic growth across the region.
Infrastructure Key to National Prosperity
Tinubu said his administration remains committed to delivering critical infrastructure across Nigeria. According to him, ongoing projects are creating opportunities and improving the lives of citizens.
He stressed that the Kuje-Gwagwalada road reflects the government’s determination to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Kuje-Gwagwalada Road Ends Decades of Challenges
The President noted that the road had served as a major challenge for residents and commuters for decades.
He said traders from Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali, and neighbouring communities often lost valuable time and goods on the route. In addition, insecurity and poor road conditions affected economic activities.
However, he stated that the newly completed 7-kilometre dual carriageway now offers safer and faster transportation.
The project includes:
- Solar-powered streetlights
- Pedestrian walkways
- Modern drainage systems
- Improved traffic flow
Tinubu described the road as more than a transportation project.
“It is security. It is commerce. It is dignity,” he said.
Road Project to Boost Agriculture and Economic Activities
The President explained that the new road will unlock the agricultural potential of the area.
He added that farmers can now move produce to markets more efficiently. Furthermore, the improved infrastructure will encourage residential development and increase business activities.
According to him, residents, workers, students, and traders will benefit from safer and easier movement.
Tinubu Appeals for Support Amid Economic Reforms
Tinubu acknowledged the hardship resulting from ongoing economic reforms.
Nevertheless, he assured Nigerians that the policies are necessary to secure long-term prosperity.
“I know the reforms have been tough. The hard choices today are for a stronger tomorrow,” he said.
He urged citizens not to lose faith in the country and encouraged them to support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike Commended for Grassroots Development
The President praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for expanding development beyond Abuja’s city centre.
He recalled directing the minister to ensure that all Nigerians benefit from the nation’s capital, regardless of location.
Tinubu said projects in Kuje, Gwagwalada, Katampe, and other communities demonstrate Wike’s commitment to inclusive development.
“Development must not be selective,” the President stated.
Every Area Council Matters, Says Tinubu
Tinubu assured residents of Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali, and other satellite towns that the government remains committed to their welfare.
He promised continued investments in roads, schools, hospitals, and water projects across all area councils.
According to him, every community deserves equal attention under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Residents Urged to Protect Public Infrastructure
The President called on residents to safeguard the newly commissioned road.
He warned against vandalising solar lights or constructing structures on the road median.
In addition, he encouraged citizens to pay taxes and ground rents to support further development.
Community Engagement Driving FCT Projects
Earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the administration adopted a community engagement model for project selection and execution.
He explained that consultations with residents and stakeholders helped identify priority projects across the territory.
Wike also commended traditional rulers for supporting governance and development initiatives.
Furthermore, he thanked President Tinubu for providing the necessary support to transform infrastructure in the FCT.
FCT Officials Highlight Benefits of the Project
Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for improving infrastructure in satellite communities.
Similarly, the Coordinator of the Satellite Town Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, described the road as a fulfilled promise.
He said the project will strengthen economic and social activities in Kuje, Gwagwalada, and surrounding communities.
According to him, the road aligns with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
