President Bola Tinubu has vowed to establish state police to tackle insecurity across Nigeria, speaking on Sunday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while hosting state governors to an interfaith breaking of the fast. He made the pledge during Ramadan and Lent observances, outlining how state policing will empower governors, strengthen grassroots security, and fulfill his 2023 campaign promises.
Tinubu Vows to Establish State Police
President Bola Tinubu said his administration will not delay its key promises to Nigerians.
He stressed that security remains the foundation of national prosperity. According to him, no nation can grow without safety.
“Security is the foundation of prosperity,” he said. “Without it, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace.”
Furthermore, he declared that Nigeria must embrace practical reforms to defeat insecurity.
“We will establish state police to curb insecurity. This is not about politics. It is about practicality,” he said.
He added that the reform will empower states to protect residents while strengthening the national security framework.
Interfaith Meeting at Presidential Villa
The President spoke while hosting governors for an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The gathering marked Ramadan for Muslims and Lent for Christians.
Tinubu described the season as sacred for both faiths. He urged leaders to rise above politics and act with conscience.
“In this sacred season, we are reminded that beyond politics and policy, we are first a people of conscience,” he said.
Call for Grassroots Development
In addition, Tinubu commended governors for their outreach efforts during the holy month. However, he challenged them to intensify support for grassroots communities.
He urged governors to reach young people who feel abandoned. He also called for greater support for struggling families.
“To reach the young man who feels forgotten. To lift the woman who carries her family on tired shoulders,” he said.
Moreover, he insisted that development must not discriminate.
“Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status,” he stated.
2023 Campaign Promises Will Be Fulfilled
Tinubu reassured Nigerians that he will fulfill the promises he made before assuming office in 2023.
He emphasized unity and courage as essential tools for reform.
“We must be bold enough to reform what is not working. We must be united enough to protect what we hold dear,” he said.
He concluded with a message of hope and determination.
“Nigeria will be safer. Nigeria will be stronger. Together, we must commit to making it so.”
