Abakaliki, Ebonyi State – February 24, 2026: Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State received the World Bank Mission Assessment Team at his office in Abakaliki on Monday. He praised the bank for implementing healthcare projects that directly improve residents’ lives and assured full state support to sustain the initiatives.
Functional Medical Facilities and State Investments
Governor Nwifuru highlighted that Ebonyi now ranks among states with fully functional medical facilities. He confirmed that MRI machines, CT scans, and other essential equipment are operational, while staff quarters and landscaping projects create a conducive environment for healthcare delivery.
“We have built staff quarters, completed landscaping, and ensured a functional environment. Our machines are fully operational,” he stated.
Commitment to Sustaining the Programme
Reiterating the state’s resolve, the governor assured the World Bank delegation of continued collaboration.
“We will not only complement your efforts; we aim to exceed expectations. We have seen the benefits and the need for this project, and we will sustain it,” Nwifuru added.
World Bank Commends Ebonyi’s Healthcare Progress
The World Bank delegation, led by Onoriode Ezire, commended Ebonyi State’s strides in healthcare delivery.
“We extend our appreciation. Thank you for providing CT Scan and MRI machines, recruiting 328 workers, and ensuring smooth healthcare operations,” Ezire said.
He added that the visit aimed to assess implementation progress and explore sustainability measures for the Impact programme. “This is the first time the World Bank celebrates a project rather than only supporting it. Its impact is visible and aligns with citizens’ needs,” he noted.
People-Focused Initiatives Remain a Priority
Governor Nwifuru emphasized that his administration prioritizes programmes that deliver tangible benefits to citizens. He assured continued partnership with development organizations offering people-focused interventions.
Describing the World Bank’s intervention as significant, Nwifuru said the programme aligns with his People’s Charter of Needs Agenda, ensuring Ebonyi residents enjoy quality healthcare services.
