Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested six suspected kidnappers and dismantled a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the abduction of an eight-year-old boy in Katsina metropolis. The operation took place on May 23, 2026, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Ali Fage, following an intelligence-led investigation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). Police recovered ₦7.5 million, a Peugeot 307 vehicle, and a Boxer motorcycle allegedly connected to the crime.
Police Launch Investigation After Child Abduction
According to the command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, the kidnappers abducted the victim on May 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m.
The boy was returning from an Islamic school in Katsina when the suspects carried out the attack.
Police said the kidnappers contacted the family the next day and demanded ₦50 million as ransom.
However, after negotiations, the family paid ₦17 million before the abductors released the child.
Intelligence Operation Leads to Arrest of Six Suspects
Following the report, operatives of the newly created Violent Crime Response Unit launched a targeted investigation.
The team tracked and arrested six members of the syndicate on Friday, May 23.
The suspects include:
- Nura Aliyu, 39, identified as the alleged mastermind and neighbour to the victim’s family
- Abubakar Aminu, 37
- Ibrahim Muhammad, 51
- Iliyasu Sani, 51
- Abubakar Muhammad, 27
- Abdullahi Isma’il, 30
During interrogation, police said the suspects confessed and revealed another accomplice identified only as Abdul.
Police Declare Manhunt for Fleeing Suspect
Authorities have launched a manhunt to arrest Abdul, who remains at large.
Investigators also recovered:
- ₦7.5 million believed to be part of the ransom payment
- A Peugeot 307 vehicle
- A Boxer motorcycle
- Additional exhibits linked to the operation
Commissioner Reaffirms Fight Against Violent Crimes
Commissioner of Police Ali Fage commended the operatives for the swift and intelligence-driven operation.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes across Katsina State.
Police added that they would charge the suspects to court after concluding investigations.
