Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN arrested Mohammed Auwal, a suspected impersonator, at Grovos Hotel in the Apata area of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, at about 2:56 p.m. on May 23 after acting on credible intelligence reports. Security operatives allege that the suspect posed as a serving officer of the Nigerian Navy, recovered items linked to him during the operation, and have launched further investigations to determine the authenticity of his claims and identify possible accomplices.

How the Arrest Happened

According to sources familiar with the operation, troops carried out the arrest during a targeted security operation in Jos North.

Authorities reportedly received intelligence concerning the suspect’s activities before moving in to apprehend him at the hotel location.

During the operation, security personnel allegedly recovered several items connected to the suspect. Among the recovered materials was an identification card bearing the insignia of the Nigerian Navy.

Security Concerns Over Alleged Military Impersonation

The suspect’s alleged claim of being an active naval officer triggered concern among security agencies and residents.

Authorities are now investigating whether the identification presented is authentic and whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider network.

Cases involving alleged impersonation of security personnel often raise concerns because such actions may undermine public trust and pose security risks.

Investigation Continues

As of the time of filing this report, Operation SAFE HAVEN had not released an official statement on the incident.

However, investigations remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and determine whether additional arrests may follow.

Meanwhile, residents in the area have reacted to the development and called for stronger measures to prevent the impersonation of security personnel across Plateau State.
