Lagos Building Collapse: 10 Rescued Alive as Storey Building Crashes in Alakija

Ten people were rescued alive on Thursday after a storey residential building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos. The incident occurred at Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town. Emergency responders arrived swiftly and rescued victims with varying degrees of injuries, while search efforts continue to locate anyone still trapped beneath the debris.

Emergency Teams Rescue 10 Victims

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that emergency teams rescued 10 occupants from the collapsed structure.

According to the agency, medical personnel immediately took the victims for treatment after their rescue.

Margaret Adeseye, Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.

Distress Call Triggered Rapid Response

Adeseye said the agency received a distress call at 11:37 a.m. regarding the incident.

Following the alert, firefighters from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station mobilised to the scene. They arrived at 11:49 a.m. and commenced rescue operations without delay.

Search and Rescue Operation Continues

Meanwhile, emergency workers continue searching through the rubble for possible survivors.

Adeseye explained that rescue teams remain on-site to locate, extricate, and evacuate anyone trapped beneath the collapsed building.

She added that the operation remains active as responders carefully clear debris and assess the structure.

Multiple Agencies Join Rescue Efforts

Several emergency agencies are participating in the operation.

They include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Navy, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Their coordinated efforts have strengthened the ongoing rescue mission.

Building Was Occupied Before Collapse

The collapsed structure was an existing residential building occupied by several residents when the incident occurred.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse.

However, investigations are expected to begin after rescue operations conclude.

Emergency officials have urged residents to stay away from the area while rescue teams continue their work.
