Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday said opposition parties would likely allege electoral manipulation if President Bola Tinubu wins re-election in the 2027 presidential election. Akpabio made the statement while receiving members of the City Boy Movement during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja. He urged the pro-Tinubu group to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and support the President’s second-term bid.
Support Group Urged to Expand Grassroots Mobilisation
Akpabio, who serves as the Grand Patron of the City Boy Movement, expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure another electoral victory.
He said the movement would help ensure the President had agents in every polling unit across Nigeria.
According to him, the group’s nationwide presence would prevent a repeat of votes allegedly lost during the 2023 general election.
He added that critics would likely question the outcome after the election but advised members to remain focused on their mission.
“When the victory of President Bola Tinubu is announced in 2027, some people will say it was rigged. Ignore those claims and remain focused,” Akpabio said.
Akpabio Advises Youths to Reject Cultism and Drug Abuse
The Senate President also urged members of the movement and Nigerian youths to avoid cultism, drug abuse and other criminal activities.
He encouraged them to embrace responsible leadership and contribute positively to Nigeria’s future through active political participation.
Akpabio warned that many promising young people fail because of poor personal choices rather than lack of opportunities.
He stressed that members had the privilege of shaping the country’s future by supporting good governance.
He also urged them to remain disciplined as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
City Boy Movement Seeks Stronger Partnership
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, said the visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with the National Assembly.
He explained that the organisation plans to expand its programmes nationwide and increase youth participation in civic and political activities.
Shoga described the movement as a growing political force with influence across the country.
He expressed confidence that the group would deploy agents to every polling unit during the 2027 elections.
According to him, the initiative would improve vote protection and enhance electoral participation.
He also assured Akpabio that members remained committed to delivering maximum support for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Shoga added that the movement would continue mobilising young Nigerians while promoting civic engagement and national development.
