The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Friday declared in Nigeria that many Nigerians plan to vote out Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the administration of policies that have worsened living conditions and triggered widespread dissatisfaction.
ADC Criticises Tinubu’s Remarks
The ADC reacted to President Tinubu’s comments made on Thursday at the State House during a meeting with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors. At the event, the President dismissed concerns about opposition strength ahead of 2027.
However, Abdullahi argued that the President should focus on governance instead of criticising opposition voices. He stressed that Nigerians across sectors now reject the administration.
He said the government’s policies have damaged livelihoods and increased hardship nationwide.
Rising Hardship and Economic Concerns
According to the ADC, Nigeria faces a severe cost-of-living crisis. Families struggle with food inflation, rising debt, and declining purchasing power.
Abdullahi stated that these challenges demand urgent attention. Instead, he claimed the President chose political rhetoric over solutions.
He added that economic pressure continues to deepen frustration among citizens.
Security Situation Raises Alarm
The ADC also raised concerns about worsening insecurity. Abdullahi pointed to reports of children abducted from examination centres as a troubling sign.
He said insecurity now affects daily life across the country. Therefore, he argued that leadership must prioritise safety.
Furthermore, he described the situation as evidence of a government losing focus.
Claims of Shrinking Democratic Space
Abdullahi criticised the administration for allegedly restricting opposition activities. He dismissed claims that the ADC held its convention “on the street.”
He insisted the information given to the President was inaccurate. Moreover, he suggested that opposition parties face increasing barriers.
He specifically mentioned limited access to public venues like Eagle Square. According to him, such restrictions weaken democratic participation.
ADC Questions Leadership Priorities
The ADC concluded that the President’s comments appeared disconnected from citizens’ realities. Abdullahi described them as unpresidential and politically driven.
He argued that hardship, insecurity, and debt remain Nigeria’s core issues. Therefore, he urged the government to focus on solving these problems.
