Former Adamawa Governor Bindow Withdraws from ADC Governorship Race

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Former Adamawa State Governor, Muhammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has withdrawn from the governorship ticket race of the African Democratic Congress. Bindow announced the decision through a personally signed statement, citing personal reasons after careful reflection. He made the announcement ahead of the party’s internal political process and stressed that the move does not affect his loyalty to the party. He also pledged continued support for the ADC’s vision for Adamawa State and Nigeria.

Bindow Explains Reason for Withdrawal

Bindow said his decision followed deep personal consideration and should not be interpreted as a loss of confidence in the party.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC leadership, stakeholders, and members across all levels. According to him, he remains ready to contribute to efforts that strengthen the party and advance its goals.

“I remain fully committed to the party, its leaders, stakeholders, and members across all levels, and I will continue to support every genuine effort aimed at strengthening our party and advancing its vision for a better Adamawa State and a greater Nigeria.”

Calls for Unity and Continued Support

The former governor urged his supporters to remain calm and focused on the party’s success.

He stated that politics should prioritise service, sacrifice, and collective interest above personal ambition. He added that his withdrawal reflects his desire to promote unity within the party.

Bindow also expressed appreciation to his supporters, political associates, and residents of Adamawa State for their encouragement, prayers, and trust throughout his political journey.

Bindow’s Political Background

Bindow represented Adamawa North in the Senate from 2011 to 2015.

He later won the Adamawa governorship election in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress and served one term.

However, in the 2019 governorship election, he lost re-election to incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party after a closely contested poll.
