The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to strengthen security around schools across the state. The directive was delivered by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina State. The visit focused on assessing security arrangements, preventing emerging threats, and ensuring that students, teachers, and educational facilities remain safe.
Police Intensify School Security in Katsina
Speaking during the visit, DIG Abdul said the Katsina State Police Command has received instructions to increase surveillance around schools. The command will also expand patrols, improve intelligence gathering, and maintain a visible police presence across educational institutions.
According to him, the initiative aims to deter criminal activities, improve emergency response, and create a safe environment for learning and teaching.
DIG Inspects Security Infrastructure
As part of the assessment, DIG Abdul visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area.
He inspected perimeter fences, entry and exit points, security posts, and the deployment of police personnel. In addition, he assessed the readiness of security structures designed to protect students, teachers, and other members of the school community.
School Administrators Raise Security Concerns
The DIG also held separate meetings with school administrators and management teams. During the discussions, they highlighted security concerns and operational challenges affecting their institutions.
Furthermore, the meetings explored practical ways to improve school safety. Participants discussed stronger collaboration between security agencies and education authorities. They also considered measures to enhance preparedness against potential security threats.
Schools Urged to Strengthen Access Control
DIG Abdul advised school managements to enforce stricter access-control measures. He also urged them to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies without delay.
According to him, timely information sharing remains vital to preventing security breaches and ensuring rapid response.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Safe Learning
Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting schools, the DIG said officers would continue working closely with school authorities, host communities, and other stakeholders.
He stressed that the partnership would strengthen security around educational institutions and guarantee a safe environment where students and teachers can carry out academic activities without fear.
