Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Saturday laid the foundation for a new secondary school in Kaura Goge, Nasarawa Local Government Area, to improve access to education by reducing long travel distances for students through a N1.3 billion state-funded project.
Project Details and Cost
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, said the project will cost N1.3 billion. He outlined the major facilities planned for the school.
The school will include 32 classrooms and 36 toilets. It will also feature four libraries and other structures. These facilities will support effective teaching and learning.
Addressing Education Challenges
Governor Yusuf said many students currently travel to Sabon Gari for schooling. Therefore, the new school will bring education closer to residents.
He explained that the project responds to community complaints. It will also reduce hardship for families and improve attendance.
Replacing a Dilapidated Structure
The new facility will replace the old Maikwatashi School. The structure had deteriorated and suffered encroachment over time.
Reports also indicated that some individuals illegally sold parts of the land. As a result, the government approved a new, secure school project.
Government Commitment to Education
Yusuf said the project reflects his campaign promises. He emphasized his administration’s focus on strengthening education infrastructure.
Earlier, officials transferred ownership of the former Maikwatashi School to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies. The government approved the transfer strictly for educational use.
Call for Cooperation and Quality Work
The governor urged residents to cooperate with the contractor handling the project. He noted that community support will ensure timely completion.
He also warned the contractor to deliver quality work. According to him, the project must meet all required standards.
