Kebbi Mosque Attack: Five Worshippers Killed in Maiyama

Five worshippers were killed and three injured when suspected terrorists attacked a mosque in Dadin Kowa community, Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Wednesday at about 8:30 pm during a Qur’anic Tafsir session and Taraweeh prayers, police confirmed.

The Kebbi State Police Command disclosed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman.

Attack Occurred During Tafsir and Taraweeh

According to the statement, the attackers stormed the mosque during the nighttime Tafsir. The session coincided with Taraweeh prayers.

The gunmen opened fire on the congregation. As a result, five worshippers died at the scene.

Three other victims sustained injuries. Medical personnel are currently treating them at a health facility.

Police described the assault as a reprisal by suspected terrorists operating in the area.

Security Operatives Deployed to Restore Calm

Usman said police operatives have deployed to the community. Other security agencies are also supporting efforts to restore order.

Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident. They have begun tracking the perpetrators.

Furthermore, the Command assured residents that officers will apprehend those responsible.

Police Urge Public Cooperation

The Police Command urged residents to remain calm. It also encouraged the public to share credible information.

According to the statement, such information will aid ongoing security operations.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Kebbi State. It stressed that officers remain focused on vulnerable rural communities facing banditry in parts of the North-West region.
