Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the Department of State Services (DSS) presented whistleblower Justice Mark Chidiebere, also known as “Justice Crack,” to Peter Akah at its headquarters on Sunday in Abuja, claiming authorities plan to prosecute him after his transfer from military custody.
Sowore Demands Immediate Release
Sowore rejected the reported prosecution plan. He insisted that authorities should release Chidiebere without conditions.
He also urged activists to mobilise immediately. According to him, they should demand the whistleblower’s freedom at the DSS office.
Furthermore, Sowore stressed that detaining a whistleblower undermines justice. He warned that such actions could silence others from speaking out.
Alleged Transfer Raises Concerns
Sowore claimed that officials moved Chidiebere from military custody to the DSS. He argued that the transfer raises serious concerns.
He further alleged that the move aims to shield misconduct involving the Nigerian Army. Therefore, he called for transparency in handling the case.
In addition, he urged authorities to clarify the reasons behind the transfer.
Call for Accountability
Sowore emphasised the need for accountability. He stated that whistleblowers play a key role in exposing wrongdoing.
He also noted that prosecuting such individuals could weaken public trust. Meanwhile, he encouraged civil society groups to remain vigilant.
As a result, he called for sustained pressure on authorities to ensure justice prevails.
Growing Public Attention
The case has continued to attract public interest. Many observers now await an official response from the DSS.
However, Sowore maintained that the focus should remain on protecting the whistleblower. He concluded that justice must not be compromised.
