Suspected terrorists attacked a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, in the early hours of Saturday, killing three officers, injuring two others, and forcing residents to flee amid heavy gunfire.

Attack on PMF Camp Sparks Panic

The attackers arrived in large numbers and launched a surprise assault on the camp around 1 a.m. They overpowered officers on duty and opened fire. As a result, three policemen lost their lives while two others sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the attack threw the quiet agrarian community into chaos. Residents fled their homes as gunshots echoed through the village.

Resident Recounts Ordeal

A local resident, Suleiman Issa, described the incident as terrifying.

“This ugly killing happened around 1 a.m. in Tenebo village,” he said.

“A terrible situation occurred. Bandits invaded in large numbers. People were killed, and others were wounded.”

Police Confirm Incident

The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the attack.

“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF camp occurred in the early hours of today,” he said.

He added that more details would be provided after further assessment.

Rising Insecurity in Kaiama

This latest assault highlights growing insecurity in Kaiama Local Government Area. In recent weeks, armed groups have targeted both communities and security formations.

Earlier on April 20, suspected terrorists overran a joint security outpost in Kemanji community. They killed three soldiers and two vigilantes. They also carted away an army gun truck and other equipment.

Similarly, on April 10, attackers struck Nuku community. They killed five members of a local forest guard unit and burned operational vehicles.

Growing Concerns Among Residents

As attacks increase, residents continue to live in fear. Many now worry about their safety and the ability of security forces to respond effectively.

Consequently, calls for stronger security measures have intensified across the region.
