Yusuf Tuggar Declares Bauchi Governorship Bid, Unveils Security and Economic Blueprint

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar on Saturday announced his bid for the 2027 Bauchi governorship election in Bauchi State. He cited poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and poor healthcare as key concerns. Tuggar, who resigned from his ministerial role on March 30, 2026, said he is running under the All Progressives Congress to drive economic growth and security reforms across the state.

Security Strategy: Community Policing and Local Collaboration

Tuggar stressed that Bauchi remains relatively stable compared to some neighbours. However, he warned of emerging threats. Therefore, he proposed proactive security measures.

He said his administration will adopt community policing and dialogue. In addition, he plans to involve traditional institutions. He also promised stronger collaboration with security agencies and local communities.

Economic Blueprint: Agriculture and Solid Minerals

Tuggar highlighted agriculture as a key driver of growth. He said the state will shift from subsistence farming to agribusiness.

“We are prepared with a clear implementation plan,” he stated.

He added that the government will invest in both rainy and dry season farming. Moreover, it will support livestock production among women and youths. He also pledged to modernise transhumance corridors and forest reserves.

Furthermore, Tuggar said similar frameworks exist for developing the solid minerals sector.

Governance Priorities: Jobs, Salaries, and Markets

Tuggar outlined plans to improve workers’ welfare. He promised prompt salary payments across the state.

In addition, he aims to revitalise local markets. He also plans to develop agro-processing industries to create jobs and boost income.

“Our goal is to move people from survival to prosperity,” he said.

Political Experience and Leadership Vision

Tuggar previously served in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011. He represented the Gamawa Constituency.

He also served as Foreign Affairs Minister after his appointment by Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023.

Although he praised past leaders, he promised improvements. “We will build on successes and correct past mistakes,” he said.

Bauchi at a Crossroads

Tuggar described Bauchi as rich in culture and human resources. However, he noted that many residents still face hardship.

“Our state stands at a crossroads,” he said.

He added that his ambition focuses on service and progress, not power or privilege.
