Zamfara Mourns Three Policemen Killed in Bandit IED Attack, Vows Stronger Security Offensive

GUSAU, Zamfara State – The Zamfara State Government has mourned three police officers killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected bandits along the Anka-Bagega Road in Anka Local Government Area. The officers, attached to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Zamfara State Police Command, died on Monday while on official duty. The government condemned the attack, reaffirmed its commitment to fighting insecurity, and pledged continued support for security agencies and the families of the fallen officers.

Government Vows to Intensify Fight Against Banditry

The Zamfara State Government said the tragic loss would not weaken its resolve to restore peace.

According to the government, the sacrifice of the officers has strengthened its determination to defeat criminal groups operating across the state.

“This tragic incident will not make us relent; it only emboldens us. We will intensify our efforts, and victory is assured, In-Sha-Allah.”

The government stressed that it would continue working closely with security agencies to eliminate banditry and protect residents.

State Delegation Attends Funeral Prayers

To honour the fallen officers, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Nakwada, led a high-powered government delegation to the funeral prayers in Gusau.

The prayers took place at the Zamfara State Police Command Headquarters and followed Islamic rites.

During the ceremony, Nakwada conveyed the condolences of the Zamfara State Government and its people to the Inspector-General of Police, the Zamfara State Police Command, the bereaved families, and the entire police community.

Government Promises Support for Bereaved Families

Nakwada prayed for Allah to grant the deceased officers eternal rest and comfort their families during the difficult period.

He also assured the families that the state government would continue supporting them in recognition of the officers’ sacrifice and dedicated service.

Furthermore, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies to end banditry and other violent crimes.

Rising Threat to Security Personnel

The deaths of the three officers highlight the increasing dangers faced by security personnel during operations against armed bandits in Zamfara State.

The government maintained that it remains committed to improving security and ensuring that those responsible for the attack face justice.
