Kwankwaso Breaks Silence on ADC Crisis, Denies Presidential Ambition

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has addressed reports about his alleged exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He spoke late Saturday through his verified social media platforms. He responded to growing speculation linked to the party’s ongoing legal disputes.

Kwankwaso Denies Presidential Ambition

Kwankwaso dismissed claims linking him to the ADC presidential ticket. He said he has not declared any intention to run.

He highlighted his democratic record. He recalled the 2014 APC primary, where he came second to Muhammadu Buhari. He supported Buhari to victory.

He also referenced the 2019 PDP primary. He backed Atiku Abubakar after losing. He later served as Northern campaign coordinator.

According to him, national interest remains his priority. He stressed party unity over personal ambition.

ADC Yet to Decide on Presidential Ticket

Kwankwaso stated that the ADC has not zoned its presidential ticket. He added that no candidate has been selected.

He said he has not endorsed any aspirant. He described contrary reports as premature and unfounded.

Absence From Meetings Explained

Kwankwaso explained his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings. Personal commitments kept him away.

However, he informed party leaders in advance. He reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing engagement.

Legal Crisis Deepens Within ADC

Kwankwaso highlighted the legal challenges facing the party. A Federal High Court ruling questioned the party’s convention.

In addition, the Attorney General reportedly sought deregistration of the party. This move increased uncertainty.

He noted that a similar crisis forced his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Now, the ADC faces similar pressure.

Supreme Court Judgment Adds Complexity

Kwankwaso said a recent Supreme Court ruling added complications. The judgment affirmed the David Mark-led National Working Committee.

However, it returned the case to the High Court. The party remains in a fragile position.

Consultations Ongoing With Other Parties

Kwankwaso revealed that consultations are ongoing. He confirmed talks with leaders from the NDC, PRP, and other groups.

He acknowledged engagement with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). However, no final decision has been reached.

He urged supporters to stay calm. He promised that any decision will be announced officially.

Reports Link Kwankwaso and Obi to Possible Defection

Recent reports suggest a possible political realignment. They link Kwankwaso and Peter Obi to the NDC.

Allies reportedly support the move. However, Kwankwaso has not confirmed the speculation.
