The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the release of Nigerians held by kidnappers and other criminal groups. Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the pledge on Friday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN). He assured Nigerians that the Tinubu administration is intensifying security efforts to rescue victims, protect lives and property, and strengthen national security across the country.
Akume Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Security
Akume said the Federal Government remains focused on protecting citizens and ensuring the safe return of everyone held in captivity.
According to him, preserving human life remains the government’s primary responsibility. Therefore, security agencies continue coordinated operations against kidnappers and other criminal groups.
“Our mission on earth, our goal on earth is to promote, preserve and prolong life. It is not to shorten it. The government is doing everything to secure the release of all who are captured,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that ongoing security operations would produce positive results. Furthermore, he urged Nigerians to continue supporting the government’s efforts to combat insecurity.
Akume Seeks Support From Faith-Based Organisations
The SGF stressed that faith-based organisations play a vital role in promoting peace and national unity.
He encouraged FOMWAN members to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration. In addition, he praised the association for contributing to national development through advocacy, humanitarian services and moral guidance.
Akume described FOMWAN as an important partner because of its strong presence among women, families and communities across Nigeria.
He also acknowledged the group’s commendation of the administration. However, he noted that governance remains challenging in every country. He added that effective leadership depends on responding quickly to emerging challenges.
Renewed Hope Agenda Prioritises Women Empowerment
Akume said the Renewed Hope Agenda places strong emphasis on women’s empowerment and inclusive development.
He added that the Federal Government values partnerships with religious organisations to promote national cohesion, improve security and accelerate development.
FOMWAN Commends Tinubu Administration
Earlier, FOMWAN National Amirah, Dr. Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, said the association remains committed to advancing Islamic values through Da’awah while promoting education, healthcare and humanitarian services.
She praised the Federal Government’s efforts in security, education, humanitarian response, social protection and women’s development.
However, Hamza urged the government to strengthen the country’s security architecture. She recommended better intelligence gathering, stronger community engagement, improved protection for vulnerable communities and policies that address the root causes of insecurity.
FOMWAN Requests Stronger Government Partnership
Hamza reaffirmed the association’s commitment to peacebuilding, youth development and family welfare.
She noted that FOMWAN has supported national development for over four decades through literacy programmes, women empowerment initiatives, health interventions and humanitarian services.
The association also requested government support to renovate its national secretariat, establish more skills acquisition centres and provide an operational vehicle.
Additionally, Hamza sought assistance for FOMWAN’s National Annual Conference scheduled for August in Abia State.
She proposed a sustainable partnership framework between the Federal Government and FOMWAN to expand collaboration in women’s empowerment, education, youth development, humanitarian response, peacebuilding and community development.
