KAGA, BORNO STATE — Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), working with forest guards, intercepted a consignment of medical supplies allegedly meant for Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Friday in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation targeted a suspected insurgent supply route and aimed to disrupt terrorist logistics networks. Security sources disclosed the development through a report published by Zagazola Makama, a security-focused publication covering the Lake Chad region.
Security Operation Disrupts Suspected ISWAP Supply Chain
According to the report, security operatives intercepted the supplies during a coordinated operation in a forest corridor frequently used by insurgent groups.
The seizure forms part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts across Nigeria’s North-East region. Security agencies continue to target supply routes that sustain terrorist activities.
Recovered Items Include Medicines and Consumables
The recovered materials included pain-relief drugs, anti-malaria injections, antibiotics, and other pharmaceutical products.
Operatives also seized basic consumables believed to support fighters operating in remote locations.
Investigators suspect the items were intended to replenish ISWAP members following recent operational losses.
Security Forces Intensify Pressure on Insurgents
The report stated that Nigerian security forces, supported by the United States Africa Command, recently carried out intelligence-led operations against insurgent groups.
As a result, terrorists reportedly suffered casualties and operational setbacks. Authorities believe the intercepted supplies were meant to strengthen affected fighters.
Suspects Used Small Batches to Avoid Detection
Preliminary investigations revealed that those behind the shipment allegedly transported supplies in small batches.
Security officials believe the tactic was designed to evade patrol teams and surveillance operations along forest routes.
However, intelligence gathering helped security operatives identify and intercept the consignment before it reached its destination.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have taken custody of the recovered items for forensic examination.
Meanwhile, security agencies have launched investigations to identify and apprehend individuals linked to the shipment.
Officials also aim to dismantle the wider logistics network supporting insurgent activities in the region.
Continued Efforts to Weaken Terrorist Networks
The latest interception highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to weaken terrorist operations.
By targeting supply chains and support networks, authorities seek to reduce the operational capacity of insurgent groups across the North-East.
