Kwankwaso, Governor Yusuf Renew Political Rift Over ‘Political Boy’ Comment in Kano

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The political feud between Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf deepened on Wednesday in Kano State after Kwankwaso defended his “political boy” remark during a meeting with supporters at his Miller Road residence. The disagreement involves the former allies, members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, and leaders within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The crisis escalated after Governor Yusuf rejected the description and warned Kwankwaso against making further disrespectful comments. The clash reflects growing divisions inside Kano’s political structure ahead of future political battles.

Kwankwaso Defends ‘Political Boy’ Statement

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, insisted that several politicians once served under his political leadership.

While addressing supporters, he questioned why some politicians rejected the label.

“I heard that some people said they dislike being called boys,” Kwankwaso said.

He also mentioned former Deputy Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, alongside former lawmakers Mai Gidan Ruwa and Aminu Goro.

According to him, Ganduje could not deny serving as his political subordinate in the past.

“How could even Ganduje deny that he was once my boy?” Kwankwaso asked supporters.

Governor Yusuf Fires Back

Governor Yusuf recently rejected Kwankwaso’s comments during a public response.

The governor described the statement as disrespectful. He argued that Kwankwaso should not call him a boy because he is already 63 years old.

Yusuf also warned that his silence should not be mistaken for weakness.

Furthermore, he urged Kwankwaso to respect himself and avoid provoking further political conflict.

The governor added that he could reveal sensitive issues publicly if the attacks continued.

Rift Deepens Within Kwankwasiyya Movement

The latest exchange highlights worsening tensions within the Kwankwasiyya political movement in Kano State.

Kwankwaso and Yusuf worked closely for years before their relationship collapsed earlier this year.

Since their separation, both politicians have traded accusations publicly.

Kwankwaso repeatedly accused Yusuf of betrayal after the governor reportedly aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former governor argued that Yusuf became governor through the NNPP platform before abandoning the movement.

However, Yusuf and his supporters continue to defend the governor’s political decisions.

Political Observers Watch Kano Power Struggle

Political analysts believe the conflict could reshape Kano politics before future elections.

The dispute has already divided loyalists within the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Observers also expect more political confrontations between both camps in the coming months.

Meanwhile, supporters of both leaders continue to debate the controversy across Kano State.
