Suspected bandits abducted a traditional ruler, his wife, and another resident in Olayinka community, Ifelodun Local Government Area, during a midnight raid on Saturday around 1:40 a.m., as security agencies launched rescue efforts.
How the Attack Happened
The attackers stormed the palace of Oba Salman Aweda in the early hours. They fired sporadically to scare residents.
Afterward, they whisked away the monarch, his wife, and another victim. The operation was swift and well-coordinated.
A resident said the attackers struck around 1:40 a.m. and overwhelmed the community. Fear spread quickly, and no one could resist them.
Security Agencies Launch Rescue Operation
The Chairman of Ifelodun LGA, Hadji Abdulrasheed Yusuf, described the incident as disturbing. He assured residents that authorities had taken action.
According to him, a joint search operation has begun. Security operatives, forest guards, and vigilantes are combing nearby forests.
He urged residents to remain calm and share useful information. He stressed that community support is vital for success.
Police Intensify Pressure on Kidnappers
The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed increased operations against the perpetrators.
He said security forces had forced the kidnappers into hiding. However, he warned that local collaborators remain a challenge.
Ojo called for federal support. He added that stronger backing would help local security teams deliver results quickly.
Rising Fear Across Communities
Meanwhile, the Olora of Ora, Oba Rilwan Yekini, confirmed the incident. He said insecurity has worsened in nearby communities.
He also noted that a similar attack occurred recently in Odo-Ore. This pattern has raised concerns about coordinated kidnappings in the area.
Residents now fear further attacks, as many communities feel increasingly unsafe.
Tension Mounts Over Recent Abductions
Reports indicate the abducted monarch was recently elevated by the state government. This detail has increased public concern.
The incident has also heightened tension across Kwara State, with residents demanding urgent action.
